After more than a year writing Hausman Marketing Letter, I decided to write a book on social media marketing. My new social media marketing book (check out my fanpage for updates and to suggest a title) will provide the same quality content as my blog. But, I’d never done anything like this before. I have a couple of chapters on social media and internet marketing in other books — most recently a book entitled “Online Consumer Behavior: Theory and Research from Social Media, Advertising, and ETailing“. Hiring a professional was my first step.
I hired Warren Whitlock of Twitter Revolution fame. He’s made a career helping folks market business books. Our first meeting with Warren was a brainstorming session on target audience, title, scope, and tone. I think it went well.
We’ll be working together to develop a table of contents and outline for the chapters, as well as graphic elements such as the cover design and images to embed in the chapters. I’m glad for the help, especially on graphic design, which is not my strong suit.
We’re thinking of using a post on 7 skills needed for social media as the organizing structure for the book Take a look at the 7 skills and comment on ones you would eliminate or ones you would add to this list. Also, comment on what other things should be included in the book. If you help develop the book, I’ll send you a FREE COPY when it’s done. Include an email address in your comments and I’ll contact you for a mailing address.
Social Media Marketing
So, what do I add to the conversation of social media marketing.
I’ve used computers since the days of punch cards and mainframes (if you don’t know what these are consider yourself lucky). My undergraduate degree was in science, but I had a minor in computer programming — Cobol, Fortran, Pascal … (yes, that’s what it was called back then). I was one of the few women in computers back then (a professor accused me of going to school for an MRS degree — now that I have a PhD, I’ve wanted to shove it in his face).
I’m an early adopter of computer technology and was online before the WWW — when it was Gopher, Groucho, and FTP. Please don’t reverse engineer to figure out how old I am.
I use the internet extensively and have several research papers and book chapters on the internet and ecommerce — mostly from the standpoint of consumers.
Today, I’m consumed with social media. In fact, this blog is positioned as the intersection of marketing and social media. So, a social media marketing book seems a natural extension.
Remember, I need your feedback. And I’m bribing you with a FREE COPY of the book. Comment and share your ideas. Thanks.
