Embrace 5 Hot Trends in Digital Marketing for Success

The five hot trends in digital marketing right now (November 2025) can spell disaster or success for your brand, depending on how effectively your team adjusts your marketing strategy to embrace the opportunities presented by these hot trends.

Based on industry data released this week (November 2025), here is the breakdown of the five hot trends in digital marketing:

Whether you like it or not, AI (artificial intelligence), as well as the LLMs (large language models), natural language processing, and content scraping that make it work, are here to stay. Your only option is to see these tools as opportunities for your success. Failure to consider how these tools might impact your marketing strategy, adapting to the changes they bring to your market, and translating your new strategy into action leads only to disaster for your brand, its employees, investors, and maybe even to the public at large.

1. AI for everything

The first of our hot trends in digital marketing has to be the role of AI itself. At first, marketers embraced (or rejected) using AI for content creation. I use some form of AI nearly every day to streamline the process of creating a steady stream of content for my website and social media platforms. It saves time, it helps me think about the day’s topic more broadly, and it brings new digital marketing topics to my attention in a way that was impossible before AI. I use a combination of Gemini (from Google), ChatGPT (from OpenAI), and Grammarly (which includes an AI component for checking grammar/ spelling and enhancing your content).

It’s a huge mistake to allow any AI tool to do all the heavy lifting for you when it comes to creating content. First, there’s the issue of copy protection, as, by its very nature, AI is “trained” on content created by others. This results in content that search engines and AI content scrapers alike will see as duplicate content, which is, at best, ignored and, at worst, penalized. We’ll discuss this more as we move on to other hot trends in digital marketing.

Another reason you should always substantially edit any content you get from AI is that it’s wrong much of the time. The problem occurs when you lack the expertise to know when it’s wrong, when the content is biased, when it’s incomplete or taken out of context, and when it’s accurate. We’re now in the position John Wannamaker lamented in understanding the efficacy of his advertising; he knows half is wasted, he just doesn’t know which half.

If you haven’t already familiarized yourself with this basic AI function, hold onto your butts, as AI is now moving to change the way marketers run their operations and make decisions, making this one of our hot trends in digital marketing. Here are the ways you can use AI in this new way:

  • automating tasks
  • enabling hyper-personalization at scale
  • providing predictive insights for data-driven decisions
  • transforming operations from content creation to customer journey mapping

These new AI uses make your business more effective, reduce wasted effort, and, as you can see in the image above, make customer journeys more productive, resulting in increased revenue.

2. The end of search as we know it

AI snippets, those helpful direct answers to users’ queries that show at the top of organic links, have reduced the need for users to click on any of those links. Rather than scroll through top link results, users now simply collect their answer from these snippets. The obvious result is reduced traffic to your website. We talked about this one of the hottest trends in digital marketing (generative engine optimization, GEO) a few weeks ago, so you should check out that post to learn more.

What does this trend mean for you? Well, not much if you’ve always focused your content creation efforts on providing value to your visitors and community on social platforms. However, you’ll need to make subtle changes in the way you organize that content to appeal to AI engines by incorporating schema and establishing credibility.

Rather than attempting to show up near the top in search results, your goal is now balanced by attempting to gain brand mentions within AI agents. You want to become the authoritative source for information within your market niche. Supporting the impact of AI referral traffic to your site, new data shows a 700% growth, year-over-year, in some markets.

3. Agentic marketing

We discussed this as one of the hot trends in digital marketing in depth yesterday, so check out that post for more information. What agentic marketing amounts to is that consumers are using an AI agent, such as ChatGPT or Gemini, to perform tasks, such as booking a trip, deciding on the best washer (to use our dysfunctional customer journey image from earlier), or booking appointments.

3 massive marketing mistakes

Responding to this trend means you’re no longer just marketing to humans, but marketing to AI agents, as well. You must explicitly display elements that the agent will use in determining whether to offer your product as a suitable solution, such as price, availability, specifications, and descriptions, in a structured format that the machine can read and analyze.

4. The video revolution

We’ve all seen the deepfakes on social media, which pose a serious threat to individuals and society. Now, we see that AI is trying to turn video production on its head with commercials and even a new feature-length movie that will be released to streaming next month, created with video tools like Sora that use text-to-video transformations.

However, just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should do something. In general, consumers universally hate AI-generated video content and prefer the greater authenticity they find in videos created using an iPhone, despite its poorer video quality and less scripted content.

All you have to do is look at recent failures, such as the Coke holiday commercial and a new Jeep commercial, to see what consumers think about these high-tech efforts to entice them to purchase the products. Instead, consumers, especially the important Gen Z consumers, look at TikTok and Instagram Reels for recommendations from real people before buying, see the shaky camera work, natural lighting, and slightly distorted audio as indicative of the kind of authenticity they value.

As a direct counter-trend to AI-generated content (which often feels polished but soulless), there is a massive surge in demand for Lo-Fi” (low fidelity) authenticity.

5. Hyper-personalization versus privacy

The “Privacy Paradox” is reaching a breaking point, as consumers weigh the benefits offered by hyper-personalization with the invasion of privacy required to fuel this marketing strategy, making this the last of our hot trends in digital marketing. As more government regulations seek to ensure some minimal amount of privacy and consumers use browsers that block tracking, companies are caught in the middle when they want to use personalized suggestions and customer journeys to improve market performance; the tension is unavoidable.

A partial solution that allows companies to navigate the tension involves relying heavily on first-party data using newsletters, loyalty programs, and building communities that allow them to collect their own data directly from consumers rather than depending on third-party data from Meta (the parent company of Facebook and Instagram) or Google. Chrome is removing the third-party option by eliminating access to this third-party data.

A summary: Old versus new

Feature The Old Way (2023-2024) The New Way (Late 2025)
Primary Goal Rank #1 on Google Get cited in the AI “Answer”
Content Style Keyword-stuffed blog posts Deep, authoritative “Knowledge Graph” data
Video High-production studio ads “Lo-Fi” authentic, creator-led clips
Traffic Source Organic Search (SEO) AI Referrals & Social Search
AI Role Tool for writing/ideation Infrastructure for operations & decisions

Conclusion

These hot trends in digital marketing, AI for content and operations, GEO, agentic marketing, authentic video creation, and the tension between privacy and personalization offer opportunities for businesses with the nimbleness to adapt their marketing strategies to effectively incorporate these trends, while businesses unable to do so will likely see their performance continue to decline.
