Are you among the 89% of businesses using video marketing in 2025? If not, you’ll find video marketing opens up amazing opportunities for your business. Through dominating YouTube and TikTok together, you amplify this success because you can reach a broader audience, reinforce your brand messaging, engage your target market across the conversion funnel, enhance your SEO potential, and build brand trust. Read on to learn how even a small business like yours can easily turn domination into revenue.

Dominating YouTube and TikTok
As you can see in the image above, the top five reasons (plus a bonus one) for working toward dominating YouTube and TikTok consider these stats:
- On average, consumers spend 52 minutes per day on social video
- 74% of TikTok viewers would seek more information after viewing a video on the platform

- Users are 87% more likely to buy a product after viewing a YouTube video
- 58% of TikTok users shop directly from the platform
Dominating YouTube and TikTok by combining the two platforms to gain access to users on each platform with content appropriate for them provides a much greater chance for success than utilizing either platform alone.
Begin dominating YouTube and TikTok today
Your first step in building a video marketing strategy is defining what each platform can accomplish for you and how to effectively use each one. Later, you can work toward a coordination between them that optimizes your success. You also need to focus on how to integrate your video marketing strategy with your overall marketing strategy to ensure you reinforce the same brand image and messaging across channels.
While this post focuses on integrating a video strategy across YouTube and TikTok, consider other video marketing options, such as Instagram Reels, as well as Facebook videos. With the amount of time, money, and effort required to create video assets, this ability to repurpose them to fit different target markets and different platform norms makes a lot of sense.
How to use each platform
| Platform | Format | Goal in Marketing Funnel | Content Style |
| TikTok (and YouTube Shorts) | Short-Form (under 60s) | Awareness & Discovery | Trend-driven, entertaining, raw, quick tips, and behind-the-scenes content. |
| YouTube (Long-Form) | Long-Form (2+ minutes) | Consideration & Conversion | Educational, in-depth tutorials, product demonstrations, customer testimonials, and detailed FAQs. |
Define core content pillars
As a small business owner, you know that operations involve a high-wire balancing act focused on achieving maximum impact, given the limited resources you have available. Hence, it makes sense to start with three to five pillars (main topics), allowing you to consistently create content around them across the various communication channels you employ.
Tee-up your strategy
Experts differ on how to begin teeing up your video marketing strategy. Some recommend you start with short-form video, then build up to long-form content. I prefer to start with long-form YouTube videos, then pull snippets from them to post on TikTok.
It really boils down to your goals in making video marketing part of your marketing strategy. In my case, I create explainer videos (on average, these are 14 minutes) to help small business leaders learn both the fundamentals of digital marketing and the more nuanced tools and tactics that help you stand out from your competitors. It’s hard to compress that into 30 seconds. I can then edit out nuggets from these long-form videos that contain key insights to share in 15-60 seconds on TikTok or YouTube shorts.
For me, that works. If you’re running a small bakery, you might find it beneficial to create short TikToks that make your target audience salivate, then introduce longer videos on YouTube featuring unique ways to present your creations that wow guests at a dinner party or event.
Next, let’s explore ways to utilize TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and YouTube in ways aimed at dominating YouTube and TikTok, starting with my preferred method of moving from long-form to short-form video.
Isolate the hook
Identify a nugget from your long-form content that offers something compelling, surprising, or high-value as the element for your short-form video.
Be authentic to the platform
While it might be tempting to simply edit out 15-60 seconds from a YouTube video and repurpose it on TikTok, remember that the execution must fit the platform norms and culture. For TikTok, that means using fast cuts, in-app overlays, and a casual tone. For YouTube shorts, you want to focus on an entertaining or educational hook.
Use a clear CTA (call to action)
For the goal of dominating YouTube and TikTok, your CTA is to drive traffic to your long-form YouTube channel by offering teasers in the short-form content. With TikTok, that means using the “Link in Bio” that leads to your channel or a specific video. For YouTube Shorts, you can use the “Related Video” feature that directs viewers to the full-length video.
Focus on searchability

Use relevant keywords in your titles, tags, and descriptions on YouTube to drive traffic from both YouTube and Google.
Focus on providing value to viewers
Consumers don’t want products; they want solutions. Hence, focus on solving the problems they face. On TikTok, you’re likely teasing these solutions, while you address the problem more fully on YouTube with details, demonstrations, case studies, data, etc.
Your end goal is revenue
Never forget that your ultimate goal with video marketing is to improve financial performance. That means you should ask for a sale by linking to your e-commerce page or, in my case, to information on joining my next coaching class. You might include incentives such as discounts or special offers.
Dominating YouTube and TikTok in combination
You want to combine these two video platforms to seamlessly maximize your ROI. Here are some ways to do that:
| Action | Platform | Implementation Detail |
| Link Placement | YouTube Channel | Ensure your Channel Art/Banner includes a clear link to your TikTok/Shorts profile. |
| Link Placement | TikTok Bio | Use a link-in-bio service (like Linktree or similar) that prominently features a button for your main YouTube channel. |
| Content Atomization | Both | Always film the original “Deep Dive” video in a high-resolution format that can be easily cropped to a 9:16 vertical aspect ratio for short-form repurposing. |
| Consistency | Both | Use the same profile picture, business name, and overall brand colors/logo on both platforms for immediate recognition. |
Long-form SEO strategy
Above, you can see the elements of SEO, along with a rationale for prioritizing this tool for every piece of content you produce. As a small business owner, consider the impact of local SEO tools to reach your market. However, on YouTube, you have several SEO elements that are unique to the platform.
- Transcripts and descriptions provide searchable text that helps search engines find your videos.
- Chapters and timestamps improve audience retention and help videos rank for specific sub-topics.
- Thumbnails offer visual engagement to support a higher click-through rate.
Short-form SEO strategy
For short-form content, including TikTok and YouTube Shorts, here are the tactics you need to support SEO:
- On-screen text
- Trending audio
- Niche hashtags
- Aiming for engagement metrics, such as completion rate. These endorse the value of your content to improve your rank in search engine results.
Tools of the trade for dominating YouTube and TikTok

You’ll need specialized tools for creating and editing video regardless of the platform you’ll use. I wrote an excellent overview of the equipment you need to get started with creating videos. Remember, you’re not going for something that’ll win at the Cannes festival, but something that looks professional. In fact, TikTok videos thrive with casual videos taken on a smartphone.
For editing, here are some great options (my choice is Adobe Premiere Pro):
| Tool | Focus | Best For | Platform | Key Feature |
| CapCut | Short-Form & Mobile | Beginners and rapid TikTok content creation. | Mobile (iOS/Android) & Desktop/Web | Free, excellent, customizable auto-caption generator (vital for short video). |
| DaVinci Resolve | Professional Long-Form | Creating cinematic, high-quality YouTube videos. | Desktop (PC/Mac) | The free version is extremely powerful, includes professional color grading and audio tools. |
| Adobe Premiere Pro | Professional Long-Form | Industry-standard for deep, complex edits and integration with Adobe Creative Cloud. | Desktop (PC/Mac) | Best for highly polished YouTube videos and complex storytelling. |
| iMovie | Simple Long-Form (Mac/iOS) | Apple users that need a straightforward, free tool for simple YouTube uploads. | Mac/iOS | Simple interface, great for fast, basic editing. |
Increasingly, creators use AI to help with creating content. Here are a few AI content repurposing tools you might consider:
| Tool | Focus | Best For | Key Feature |
| Opus Clip | Long-to-Short Conversion | Automatically generating several viral-ready clips from one long video. | Web-based |
| Klap (or Munch/Vizard) | Content Atomization | Scaling your content output quickly by extracting highlights from podcasts or YouTube videos. | Web-based |
| Pictory | Script-to-Video | Turning blog posts, articles, or text scripts into engaging short videos with stock footage. | Web-based |
We mentioned earlier that subtitles help with SEO. Here are a few tools that can help with that task:
| Tool | Focus | Best For | Key Feature |
| CapCut (Again) | Dynamic Captions | Free, popular tool for adding the trendy, word-by-word dynamic captions seen on TikTok. | Mobile/Desktop |
| Canva | Captions and Graphics | Adding branded, static captions and integrating design elements like text, graphics, and templates. | Web-based |
| Descript | Text-Based Editing | Editing long-form videos by directly editing the text transcript (like a document). | Desktop |
Finally, here are some optimization tools to consider:
| Tool | Focus | Best For | Key Feature |
| TubeBuddy / VidIQ | YouTube SEO | Researching keywords, analyzing competition, and optimizing YouTube titles/tags. | Browser Extension |
| Canva | Thumbnails & Branding | Creating click-worthy YouTube thumbnails and consistent visual assets for all platforms. | Web-based |
Conclusion
Dominating YouTube and TikTok isn’t easy, but the rewards for creating a seamless video marketing strategy are immense. I hope to have given you a strong foundation on which you can build a video marketing strategy for dominating YouTube and TikTok.
