More businesses are adding social media marketing to their arsenal, yet some report limited results. Some catastrophes occurred. So, what explains so much social media marketing failure?
I recently reported on some failures in our social media marketing class — see the first story from my storify curation. Despite the great job the students did, they had trouble convincing their clients to do what’s best.
Clients applied for the program and really wanted to increase their social media marketing efforts (especially when it was FREE), but they didn’t understand that social media marketing is ENTIRELY different from traditional marketing. They wanted to take their traditional marketing message into the social arena — and that DOESN’T work.
So, I curated some recent stories from across the web highlighting specific social media marketing failures, such as Pepsi, and general advice on avoiding social media marketing failure. Econsultancy highlights 14 social media marketing failures.
A Word About Storify
OK, so I used Storify to curate content from across the web. This plugin allows me to search based on keywords, then incorporate stories from public sources in social media such as Google+ (which is where I found the best links, BTW), YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook.
To effectively learn from this curation, you’ll need to access the links contained in my stories.
Let me know what you think about Storify. Also, please add your comments on this topic. I’d love to hear your successes and failures (you can do this anonymously). I’m putting together something more substantial on failures, so give me some examples. Thanks.
